The  Newspaper & Mail Deliverers Union of New York and Vicinity represents over 1,000 employees at newspapers and a magazine distributorship in New York and New Jersey.

THE NEWSPAPER & MAIL DELIVERERS' UNION OF NEW YORK  AND VICINITY'S  GENERAL ELECTION WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, MAY 2ND. 2011 at WEBSTER HALL FROM 9 AM-10 PM, 119-125 EAST11TH STREET, NEW YORK, N.Y. 10003 BETWEEN 3RD AVENUE AND 4TH AVENUE

THE ELECTION WILL HAVE THREE MACHINES AND WILL BE SUPERVISED BY THE AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION.  

The Newspaper & Mail Deliverers' Union of New York and Vicinity was Founded on October 29, 1901 and its' members make deliveries  for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Daily News, The Newark Star Ledger, New York Post, El Diario, America Oggi, The Jersey Journal and delivers magazines at Hudson News Distributors.

The Union prides itself on the excellent living it has been able to provide to it's membership.

At the Special General Body Meeting held on Sunday, February 20, 2011, the membership overwhelmingly passed reducing the amount of Union Officers to three (3) officers to consist of a President, a Vice-President/Secretary-Treasurer and a Business Agent. The salaries and the expense allowances for both the President and Business Agent will be merged and the Vice-President/Secretary-Treasurer will get the Secretary-Treasurer's salary which does not have an expense allowance. There will be a five (5%) per cent reduction as well. The weekly salaries will be reduced as follows: the President is  currrently getting  $2,296.33 in salary and $414.08 expense allowance totalling $2,710.41 and will be reduced to  $2,575.47 in weekly salary only, Vice-President/Secretary-Treasurer will receive the Secretary-Treasurer's weekly salary, which is currently $2,243.15 which will be reduced to $2,130.99 and the Business Agent's salary of 2,018.56 and weekly of expense allowance of $497.88 totalling $2,516.44 will be reduced to a weekly salary of $2,381.11 in weekly salary only. These salaries will be frozen through the May 2011 - May 2013 election cycle. 

The membership approved expanding the Executive Council Meetings to a mandatory nine (9) months a year except for July, August and January.  The amount of ten (10) Executive Council members will remain in effect. However, there will be a reduction in their pay to $220 per meeting down from the current pay of $275.92 per meeting. As with the major officers, this rate will be frozen through the 2011-2013 election cycle.

In addition to that, the membership approved reducing the Quorum to One Hundred and fifty (150) down from the Two Hundred (200) figure. This will make it easier for the Union to conduct its' business.   

The membership came out of that meeting united in its' support for the Newspaper & Mail Deliverers' Union of New York and Vicinity. In Unity, There's strength!

Unfortunately, the new Union Cards will not be issues until after the Election. Therefore, the old Union cards will still be used for the election. When the Union has the resources, new cards will be issued at a different dates and locations to be announced. 

You should be receiving the Bulletin with the names of all the candidates and the ballot positions as they will appear in the voting machines within two weeks.
